Advanced Course in Ovarian Tissue Cryopreservation

Clinical Application and Hands-on Training in Fertility Preservation

Faculty: Dr. Rebeca Gómez Casaseca
Duration: 12 hours.
Modality: on site
Location: Toledo – Cigarral Santa Lucía. Spain.
Dates: May 28th and 29th, 2026

A High-Level Training Experience

This intensive program provides rigorous, up-to-date training in ovarian tissue cryopreservation as a key technique in fertility preservation, with a clinical and technical focus oriented toward its application in assisted reproduction units and oncofertility programs.

The program is designed to provide professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to understand and implement the full ovarian tissue cryopreservation workflow in clinical practice—from clinical indication and surgical retrieval to tissue processing, freezing, and storage—through a combination of theoretical and hands-on training.

Program Approach

The course adopts a multidisciplinary perspective, aligned with the clinical reality of assisted reproductive medicine units and fertility preservation programs for patients at risk of gonadotoxicity. It focuses on translating technical protocols and clinical evidence into the healthcare setting, enabling professionals to integrate ovarian tissue cryopreservation into structured and safe clinical workflows.

This training is designed for gynecologists, reproductive specialists, embryologists, laboratory teams, and healthcare professionals working in fertility preservation programs.

Academic Content

The program content is structured into two main components:

Theoretical Section:

  • Clinical rationale for ovarian tissue cryopreservation
  • Objectives of fertility preservation programs
  • Inclusion criteria for candidate patients
  • Exclusion criteria and clinical limitations
  • Multidisciplinary coordination and communication (oncology, gynecology, laboratory, and tissue bank)
  • Clinical requests and required documentation
  • Equipment requirements for the operating room and laboratory
  • Traceability systems and quality control
  • Surgical retrieval of ovarian tissue
  • Ovarian tissue processing
  • Units involved in the clinical workflow
  • Storage of samples in liquid nitrogen
  • Transport conditions and chain of custody of the tissue

Practical Section:

  • Workshop 1 · Ovarian tissue processing
  • Workshop 2 · Ovarian tissue cryopreservation

During the course, bovine ovary will be used as a biological model for hands-on training, allowing participants to develop skills in the handling, dissection, and sectioning of ovarian tissue fragments under controlled laboratory conditions.

Training Goals

To provide professionals with the clinical knowledge and technical skills required to implement and develop an ovarian tissue cryopreservation program, ensure proper process traceability, handle tissue appropriately in the laboratory, and apply standardized protocols in patients eligible for fertility preservation.

Methodology

The methodology combines structured theoretical instruction, integrated theoretical–practical training, and laboratory-based training. The approach is highly practical and focused on the acquisition of technical competencies, incorporating real protocol simulations, guided discussions, and the direct application of ovarian tissue processing and cryopreservation procedures.
